BRON vs CoCounsel · For litigation firms

Put the evidence request and the draft on one matter.

BRON is litigation software for US commercial litigation teams, especially firms of 10–100 lawyers. It connects client requests and scoped collection with the evidence, drafts and assignments your lawyers review. Keep the research subscription your practice needs.

When to evaluate CoCounsel

CoCounsel Legal performs multistep research, analysis and drafting using Westlaw, Practical Law and firm documents. It also offers Deep Research, Litigation Document Analyzer, Brief Builder and matter Workspaces. Evaluate it when that combination of legal content and work product leads your purchase.

Evidence, scope and limits

Evidence

BRON: Ask the client for named material through the portal. Collector can search supported sources on their Mac after they accept the scope. Collection has limited availability and requires macOS 15 or later. Returned files carry receipts and await review; a search does not establish completeness.

CoCounsel: CoCounsel Workspaces retain matter documents and history. Published connections bring files from document and practice management systems into legal work. Ask each vendor to demonstrate how the evidence your firm needs enters the matter.

Ask in the demo: Start with an email still on a client's Mac. Show the request, accepted scope, returned original and lawyer's review.

Plan the work

BRON: Use Chambers to develop the assignment. Desk keeps its stages, expected result, responsible people and sources together. A licensed attorney approves a supported workflow's plan before internal preparation runs. Covered external acts require their own approval.

CoCounsel: CoCounsel builds and executes a plan for research, analysis and drafting from a request. Brief Builder also has lawyer decision points. Compare the assignment, review steps and follow-up work your team needs.

Ask in the demo: Follow one assignment from the partner's direction to a reviewed draft, then show who owns the outstanding evidence request.

Research

BRON: BRON prepares litigation work using the matter's sources. Source checks do not replace your research subscription or establish that an authority controls or remains good law.

CoCounsel: Deep Research works through legal questions and produces cited reports. CoCounsel combines Westlaw, Practical Law and the organization's own material. Confirm the research content and tools included in your package.

Ask in the demo: Check the authority, jurisdiction and citator coverage your lawyers need, alongside the matter work you want BRON to prepare.

Draft review

BRON: Review the draft with its supporting and contrary accounts. When an attorney accepts a fact correction, BRON flags work with recorded reliance on it and creates review tasks. Unrecorded dependencies are outside that claim, and BRON does not rewrite the draft.

CoCounsel: Litigation Document Analyzer links findings to source documents and pages. Tabular Analysis provides source-linked answers across documents. Brief Builder supports lawyer-reviewed facts, arguments and authorities.

Ask in the demo: Use conflicting witness accounts and a later-arriving email. Inspect what the draft says, what supports it and what still needs an answer.

Office tools

BRON: BRON's Word add-in and Outlook panel are in development. Start the evaluation with the browser workflow and confirm the applications required for your proposed pilot.

CoCounsel: CoCounsel publishes drafting and review in Word, work in Outlook and Teams, and connections to document systems. Confirm access and package requirements with Thomson Reuters.

Ask in the demo: Complete a representative editing and review task in the host application your lawyers intend to use.

BRON's evaluation should show the client's response, the accepted collection scope, the returned sources and the lawyer's next assignment. These are documented workflows to inspect, not a claim that another product cannot do them.

Choose by the work you need

Start with the result
you need to buy.

BRON and CoCounsel overlap in parts of the work. Your decision depends on the whole assignment, the tools already in place and the result your lawyers can use. These are starting points for evaluation.

  • BRON

Client requests, evidence and the next review

Evaluate one litigation assignment across the client response, accepted collection scope, reviewed evidence, drafting and Desk workflow.

Begin with a fictional demonstration. Agree a limited pilot and its supported scope before using client material.

  • CoCounsel Legal

Research, analysis and drafting with licensed content

Evaluate CoCounsel for legal work using Westlaw, Practical Law and firm documents, including multistep tasks.

Confirm product access, required applications and contract terms in writing.

  • Alongside your existing tools

A workflow first. A wider decision later.

Keep the systems your firm depends on while testing a specific assignment. Name the tools, transfers, owners and review steps involved.

Confirm each supported connection. A pilot is not a promise of complete replacement or automatic synchronization.

One commercial dispute, from request to review

The missing email changes the assignment.

In North Harbor, Garcia and Smith disagree about notice. Elena Rivera asks the client for the email and meeting notes. Requests can receive reminders when the firm enables them.

Garcia accepts a scope naming Apple Mail on this Mac and the North Harbor documents folder. Collector returns the email and attachment. The meeting notes are not found in those sources. Elena reviews what arrived.

Alex Chen prepares memorandum v4 with the returned email and both accounts. The email establishes what was sent; receipt and reading remain unresolved. The next request seeks Smith's copy of the May 2 email, its delivery records, and the review-meeting notes.

Garcia emailed Smith the defect report on May 2. The email does not show when Smith received or read it, so both accounts still stand.

Use Chambers to direct the work and Desk to follow the assignment and its review. The same matter can support discovery, settlement preparation or trial preparation as counsel decides what comes next. Settlement and trial workflows have limited availability; agree the supported scope before a pilot.

Fit, availability and pricing

Start alongside the tools you use.

Agree one supported workflow, who will review it and what your firm will keep using. Scope and bespoke pricing go in writing before client material goes into BRON.

When should a commercial litigation firm evaluate BRON alongside CoCounsel?

Evaluate BRON when your team needs to connect client requests, collection, disputed facts, drafts and the next assignment on one matter. The intended fit is US commercial litigation firms with roughly 10–100 lawyers. CoCounsel also performs multistep research, analysis and drafting. Compare the work your lawyers need to direct and review, while keeping the tools your practice relies on.

Does BRON replace Westlaw or CoCounsel legal research?

No research-subscription replacement is offered here. Keep the research and citator coverage your practice requires. BRON's source checks do not decide whether an authority controls or remains good law. The evaluation is about connecting that legal work with the evidence, client requests and assignments on the matter.

Can our firm use BRON on a live matter now?

Start with a guided demo on a fictional matter. BRON has never been tested on a live matter. A limited pilot can follow once the supported workflow, setup, responsibilities and terms are agreed in writing. Confirm feature availability before moving client material into BRON.

What does CoCounsel cost compared with BRON?

This page does not establish a cheaper product. BRON has no public rate card: scope and bespoke pricing are agreed in writing. Compare proposals for the same people, research access, work, implementation and support. Confirm CoCounsel's package and commercial terms directly with Thomson Reuters.

Do we have to replace our current tools to evaluate BRON?

Begin with one supported workflow alongside your current research, document and practice management tools. No automated CoCounsel migration is offered on this page. Agree the documents, sources, exports and access needed for a limited pilot before moving confidential material.

A guided demo on a fictional matter

Follow the work your team would review.

Describe the kind of dispute your firm handles and the assignment you want to inspect. We'll follow the fictional matter from the client request to the draft and next step. Keep client-confidential material out of the initial inquiry.
