Building with BRON

The REST API and the MCP server: authentication, scopes, what an outside tool can read and propose, and what it can never do.

For developers

Choose the API or the MCP server

  • Use the API for software your firm writes or runs. The reference covers keys and scopes, rate limits, the endpoints, webhooks, and rebuilding a matter's case map in your own app (the reference calls it the knowledge graph).
  • Use the MCP server to connect an AI tool your firm already uses. The tool can read the matter, add notes and propose actions. It cannot send, file, sign, serve, calendar or move money.

Give each key only the access it needs

An API key acts as its owner. It can reach the firm's matters, except any its owner is screened from. By default that includes privileged material in the case map. Keep each key secret, like a password. Give it only the scopes it needs, and add a matter allow-list when it should reach one engagement. For a dashboard or a tool you are still trying out, create a client-safe key, which only ever sees the client view of the case map.

Get the OpenAPI description

Each deployment publishes an OpenAPI description at GET /api/v1/openapi.json. It gives the request and response shapes and contains no firm data. The API reference says which scope each endpoint needs and what each error means.

What an integration can do

  • Read within its key's reach. It can read matters, documents, facts, citations and audit records only where its key has access.
  • Keep the source with the work. Store record IDs and source locations with anything you derive, so a reviewer can go back to the original.
  • Propose, and leave the decision to an attorney. Through the MCP server, a tool can add notes and file proposals. It cannot send, file, sign, serve, calendar or move money.
  • Check exported files. Anyone can check exported files against their manifest without access to the firm's workspace.

Failure is part of the contract

BRON refuses a request when the key lacks the scope, the matter is out of its reach, or a person has to decide. The refusal comes back as an explicit answer, not an empty result. Show it to the person running the integration, and do not retry with a broader key.

Check an exported file

Use Verify to compare exported files with their manifest. You do not need an account. A match shows the files are the ones recorded. It does not show that nothing is missing.

Check valuation calibration

Valuation calibration sets out how BRON's valuation estimates, recorded before outcomes are known, are scored against matters that have resolved. It publishes a result only when its record of those estimates can be verified and enough matters have resolved, and it says whether it has.
