Deadlines

Calculate a date and review it before calendaring

You have a recorded triggering event and need to inspect a calculation before a licensed attorney decides whether to add the date to the matter calendar.

Before you begin

  • A verified trigger event, the applicable authority and an attorney authorized on the matter.

What to do

  1. Open the matter's Deadlines view and Calculate a deadline. Confirm the matter before choosing an available rule. If the rules fail to load or none are available, use the displayed recovery option and stop the rule-based calculation.
  2. Enter the actual triggering date in Triggered and choose the recorded Service method. Check other inputs shown for the selected rule. Do not use today's date, the document upload date or an assumed method to fill an unknown.
  3. Select Calculate and inspect the proposed date, authority and explanation. Compare each input with the source record and have counsel check the applicable rule, forum and counting method. A calculated result still needs that review.
  4. A licensed attorney should use Add to calendar only after approving the exact date and its basis. If the inputs change during review, calculate again and inspect the new result before continuing. Approval of an earlier calculation does not resolve changed facts.
  5. Reopen the saved deadline and confirm its date and basis. If the interface reports that the result was computed but not saved, resolve the error and check for an existing entry before retrying. Do not assume the preview created a calendar entry.

What you should see

The matter contains the attorney-confirmed deadline with the reviewed basis, or counsel must resolve the issue when the inputs or supported rule cannot be established.

Limits and unresolved problems

The calculator covers the rules available for the matter. It does not establish legal applicability. External calendar export is available as an .ics file; live Google or Outlook synchronization is not verified for production.
