Before you begin
- A reviewed brief and the matter owner's authority to share the intended material.
What to do
- Open the brief on the matter and inspect the exact version to be shared. Check the text, citations and cited documents, including their classification and any protective-order restrictions. Sharing requires the attorney's decision about this material and audience.
- Use the brief's share action as the matter owner. Read the confirmation and record which version the link represents. A later edit to the draft does not update the existing link; the recipient receives the version fixed when it was shared.
- Inspect the link before sending it through the firm's chosen channel. It is read-only, needs no BRON account and opens the brief and permitted cited sources. It does not grant access to the rest of the matter or allow export.
- Use Shared links to review the link's recorded state. The default expiry is 14 days, and the owner can revoke it sooner. Revoking the brief stops its existing public links, including links that may have been embedded in an exported draft.
- If a recipient cannot open the brief, check expiry, revocation and any refused cited source. Do not remove a protective-order restriction to make a link load. If the shared version needs correction, prepare and review a new version and share it deliberately.
What you should see
The recipient has a link to the intended fixed version, and the matter owner can inspect its state and revoke existing links when appropriate.
Limits and unresolved problems
Anyone holding the live link can open its permitted contents. A protective-order check runs on cited sources, and a refused source can prevent the brief from being served. Revocation cannot recall a recipient's prior copies.
