Client requests

Answer an item in your firm's document checklist

Your firm has asked for a document or answer in the client portal, and you want to respond to the right item.

Before you begin

  • Your own invitation or sign-in for the firm's client portal.
  • The request from the firm and any files you intend to provide.

What to do

  1. Sign in through the portal address your firm supplied. Open the matter and its document checklist. Read who is asking, what the item requests and the reason given before selecting a file.
  2. Open the requested item and compare its description with what you have. If the request is unclear, choose I'm not sure what you need and ask the firm to explain. Do not guess which person's records or dates the firm intended.
  3. For a file you can provide, choose Choose one or more files on that item. Select the intended files and keep the original copies. For an answer, use the response control shown for that request.
  4. Wait for the result for each file. A file may still be sending while another has arrived. Read any retry or unresolved-outcome message before starting a second upload of the same material.
  5. Return to the item and read its receipt or status. If you sent the wrong file, tell your firm which item and filename were involved. Ask the firm how to correct the record rather than assuming a second file replaces the first.

What you should see

The item shows the response or upload outcome that BRON recorded. A receipt means the file arrived; the firm still reviews it.

Limits and unresolved problems

Respond only through your own portal access. On a matter with several clients, answers stay private while request progress is shared. The portal assistant is not a lawyer; ask the firm about the meaning or legal effect of a request.
