Import matters and contacts from Clio or Filevine

Your firm has an export from its existing practice system and wants to inspect what BRON will create before importing it.

Before you begin

  • The original Clio or Filevine export files and authority to import that firm's records.
  • A licensed attorney at the firm to confirm the import.

What to do

  1. Open Settings, then Integrations, and find the Clio or Filevine import. Select the provider that produced your files. Read its requested file list before choosing the matters, parties, contacts or time exports.
  2. Keep the original exports. Choose the files and select Preview. Nothing is written yet. Read the data-quality report, rejected rows and warnings, then inspect sample matters and the people and companies associated with them.
  3. Review possible identity matches and unfamiliar party roles with someone who knows the source records. A similar name is a reason to inspect a match, not a reason to combine two people. Correct an export problem and preview again before proceeding.
  4. Have a licensed attorney review the proposed import and choose Confirm and import, then Import plan. If the files or firm directory changed since the preview, run a fresh preview and approve that plan instead of repeating an old confirmation.
  5. Read the import result for errors and skipped rows. Inspect representative matters, contacts and time entries in BRON. Re-run the firm's conflicts scan after the imported history is present and retain the result of that review.

What you should see

The confirmed import creates supported matter, party, contact and time records, with any row failures reported for follow-up.

Limits and unresolved problems

This import does not move document files, bills or trust data. A date in an export does not become an attorney-confirmed deadline. Importing history does not clear a conflict, and a CSV import is not ongoing synchronization with the provider.
