Trial preparation

Export and inspect the trial notebook

You need a trial preparation file outside BRON and want to know what the notebook contains before relying on it away from the matter workspace.

Before you begin

  • A reviewed order of proof and the recorded trial material to include.

What to do

  1. Open the matter's Trial view and Order of proof. Review the witnesses, exhibits, instructions and motions recorded there before exporting. Resolve failed reads first so that a loading problem is not mistaken for a short preparation list.
  2. Use the notebook's export control and wait for the download to finish. Read the confirmation describing the contents. The export is assembled from the notebook records; it is not a promise that the matter holds every item counsel needs.
  3. Open the downloaded Trial Notebook document. Check the witness order, exhibit references and sections against your preparation. Inspect the document itself before printing, sending it to another team member or relying on it in a courtroom.
  4. If you also prepare an exhibit binder, inspect any slip page naming an exhibit that could not be printed. A placeholder preserves that exhibit's position in the sequence. It does not provide the missing document or establish that the file was reviewed.
  5. If export fails, keep the existing records and retry after checking the error. For a repeat failure, report the matter, export type and visible message through your firm's support process. Do not delete evidence to make the export succeed.

What you should see

You have opened and inspected the exported notebook, identified any missing material, and confirmed that the file reflects the trial preparation counsel intends to use.

Limits and unresolved problems

Trial tools remain limited. The notebook is attorney work product and is not saved as a matter document for the client portal. A downloaded copy still requires the firm's usual handling and review.
