Before you begin
- The request itself, the matter's forum and any available service evidence.
- A licensed attorney responsible for confirming legal dates.
What to do
- Open the matter's Discovery area and Requests & deadlines. Identify whether the request was served on your firm or prepared for the other side. Attach or identify the actual request and preserve its item numbers so later responses and production review refer to the same assignment.
- Record the service facts from the evidence: the event, date, method and relevant parties. Do not substitute the upload date, the day you opened BRON, or the matter's phase-change date for service. Leave a fact unresolved if the supporting record does not establish it.
- Read a proposed date with the cited rule, forum and counting method. Confirm that the rule applies to this matter and that the trigger has been established. If the needed rule or forum is unsupported, the attorney must determine and calendar the date through the appropriate process.
- Have the licensed attorney confirm the legal date before treating it as calendared. A proposed calculation remains a task until that confirmation. Separately assign internal preparation and review work so the team knows who must act before the response is due.
- If the trigger, service method or forum changes, inspect any recalculated proposal and the existing confirmed date. BRON proposes a change rather than moving the date itself. If no proposal appears, bring the new evidence to the attorney instead of assuming the old date remains correct.
What you should see
The request is identifiable, its service facts are supported, and the team can distinguish an attorney-confirmed legal date from a proposal or internal preparation task.
Limits and unresolved problems
Deadline calculations have limited rule and forum coverage. BRON does not supply a missing trigger or make a proposed date binding. The attorney determines the applicable obligation.
