Before you begin
- The document version to be reviewed and the proposed production scope.
- Attorney instructions on privilege, work product, protective orders and the required log.
What to do
- Open the document in the review workflow and inspect its current classification. Read the content and context before deciding whether to withhold or redact. BRON keeps the more protective result when a model and rule-based classification disagree; the lawyer determines the legal treatment.
- Use the available redaction workflow for the intended document version. Review the proposed locations and reasons, then inspect the resulting copy before relying on it. A visible mark in a review interface is not enough to establish what the exported file contains.
- Open Production and the privilege log. Reconcile withheld documents with the recorded withholding decisions. Review suggested descriptions before accepting them, and add a manual draft entry when an item needs one. Avoid a description that discloses the protected substance while explaining the basis adequately.
- Use Recheck privilege conflicts and inspect each result. A privileged document in a production and a withheld document missing a log entry are separate problems. Resolve the underlying classification, set or log entry rather than treating one clean result as an answer to both.
- Inspect the final production copy and log before the attorney approves the outside action. If the source document changes, review the new version's redactions again. Record service only when it occurs; a served privilege-log entry becomes immutable, so correct draft entries before marking them served.
What you should see
The proposed production excludes blocked material, any redacted copy has been inspected, and recorded withholdings have reviewed log entries appropriate to the matter.
Limits and unresolved problems
Software classification does not decide privilege. Redaction, privilege classification and client visibility are independent controls. Do not change a protective classification merely to make a production pass.
