Before you begin
- Authorized access to the firm trust ledger and the statement for the account and period.
What to do
- Open the firm trust ledger from Billing. The matter trust view is read-only and shows one matter's position; use the firm ledger to record a bank statement and run reconciliation for the pooled account.
- Check the selected account and statement period, then record the bank figure from the actual statement. Keep a missing bank figure missing. Substituting zero changes the meaning of the check and cannot establish that the bank agrees with the ledger.
- Review the trust ledger and client balances for the same scope, then run the three-way reconciliation. Read whether the bank statement, ledger and client balances match and inspect the difference shown. A failed read is not a zero balance.
- Investigate discrepancies against the statement and recorded transactions. A posted trust entry is immutable. Use the firm's authorized correction process instead of editing or deleting the original entry, and preserve the explanation for the reconciliation review.
- Review any pending approvals separately from posted transactions. A payment above a configured threshold may require a second licensed attorney. If access or reconciliation remains unavailable, report the account and visible error through the firm's support process before relying on a result.
What you should see
The reconciliation states whether the three records agree, identifies missing information or differences, and gives the firm a basis for review without changing a posted ledger entry.
Limits and unresolved problems
Reconciliation records a comparison; it does not transfer money at the bank. BRON never sends money out. A result without a bank figure remains unreconciled, even when the ledger and client balances agree.
