Before you begin
- The firm's collection request in BRON for Mac.
- A way to contact the requesting person if a source or date range is unclear.
What to do
- Read the request before accepting it. Check who is asking, the matter, the description of the requested material, the sources and the dates. Compare those details with the request you expected from the firm.
- Ask the firm about any unclear source or date range before accepting. If the request names another person's account or a source you do not have, explain the discrepancy rather than substituting another source yourself.
- Accept the request when you understand its scope. Nothing is copied before acceptance. macOS may still require separate permission for a named source before BRON can read it.
- Read the collection activity as it runs. Searches the firm conducts on accepted sources are logged and shown to you. They do not require a fresh approval for each search, so review the original source scope carefully.
- Use Pause whenever you need to stop collection. Tell the firm what needs clarification and read the app's current state before continuing. Ask the firm how any material already received will be handled; pausing is not an instruction to remove it.
What you should see
Collection proceeds only after you accept the named request, and you can pause it while resolving an uncertainty. Returned material goes to the requesting matter for attorney review.
Limits and unresolved problems
Accepting a request does not decide relevance, admissibility or whether the request has been fulfilled. Those decisions remain with the attorney. Your role as client, employee or witness does not establish that the requesting firm represents you.

Still need a hand?
Contact the firm that sent the request. Tell them which step you reached and what the screen says. Your firm handles legal questions and decides what to do next.
